The Issue

I am writing to express my frustration and disappointment with the recent installation of new telegraph poles by Openreach in Leeward Circle and Jamica Drive, East Kilbride  When I look out my window, instead of the beautiful, uninterrupted view I once enjoyed, I now see an unsightly array of poles and soon to be cables crisscrossing the skyline just as they have done across the street. These installations were not meant to replace any existing infrastructure as there were no other poles, yet they have marred the scenic beauty of our neighborhood, affecting not only my view but that of all the neighbours and community.

The residents of Leeward Circle and Jamica Drive cherish the views and environment that our town provides. The visual intrusion caused by these poles goes against the character of our community as no poles were previously installed, and the aesthetic harmony we all value. By erecting these poles when they were not replacing old ones, Openreach is bypassing laws and regulations and showing disregard for our rights as residents, several complains have been ignored as it doesnt suit Openreaches bugdet of not spending money. They have mocked the disputes by ignoring the laws and pretending it does not affect the views, while also ignoring the fact its on neighbouring land and repeating its only a complaint if on personal land, which is not the case

According to the law, new telegraph poles that do not serve the purpose of replacing existing structures should not be permitted. These bylaws are in place to protect the interests of the community and ensure that any development respects the local environment and residents' views,

This disregard for community standards must be urgently addressed. We are calling on Openreach to honor our countries laws, regulations and either remove these unsightly poles or engage with the community to find a more aesthetically pleasing solution like underground as they have done in some areas, but should be doing for all areas. Alternatives such as underground cabling should be explored to ensure that our scenic views are preserved, its not a case of whats cheapest for Openreach that matters, the law matters!

Join us in urging Openreach and the local authorities to take immediate action. Sign this petition to restore the beauty and tranquility of our beloved Leeward Circle and Jamica Drive and ensure that our laws and regulations are upheld, protecting our community’s character for generations to come as once the poles are up for 12 months without protest further action is hard to take. Together, we can make a difference and ensure our voices are heard.
