No dog on the beach enforcement fines to be issued

Councillor Julie Milton  - confirmed via e-mail that they would not be issuing enforcement notices if you take you dog on the beach.

The press are coming down on Sat to cover our Stand against the Beach Ban @11am on The Stand Open Space.

Below is a statement from the Green Party - we await responses from other Parties

"Hastings Green Party Statement re Dog PSPO
12th April 2024
Many residents have spoken to us following the recent implementation of a new Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) which excludes dogs from beach areas at Rock-a-Nore and central St Leonards entirely from April to September.

The Green Party believe that this restriction is excessive and against the wishes of the majority of residents. While it is clear that the council needed to renew the PSPO (which lapsed in June 2020), Greens have only been made aware of the extent of the restrictions since the signage was placed. It is also clear that the Labour Cabinet who voted this through in March last year did not follow the recommendations made to have a timed restriction, 9am - 5pm, in place. Instead, the Labour cabinet opted to create a complete ban on the excluded areas.
We are at a loss as to why the recommendations were not followed by Labour councillors at the time.
If Greens are in power after May 2nd council election, we will waste no time in reviewing this ban, which appears to contravene the public consultation and the wishes of a large majority of our responsible dog-owning and dog-loving residents."

Thank you - together we are making a difference
