Remove Myers Park High School Principal Mark Bosco for alleged assault cover up + inaction

The Issue

As principal of one of the largest public schools in NC, Mark Bosco is entrusted with the care of over 3,500 students daily. We expect students to be treated with respect and dignity when reporting any alleged crime. A principal sets the tone of the campus, and MPHS is not a safe place for victims and students.

MPHS principal, Mark Bosco has created an unsafe environment for students to report assault for fear of being bullied and not believed

MPHS principal, Mark Bosco has made insensitive comments in student assemblies stating “some people go into the woods and don’t come back happy” and “that’s the price we pay for being men.”

MPHS principal, Mark Bosco has stated under oath that Ms. Roe “should have just let the whole thing blow over in order to avoid the risk to her academic future.”

MPHS principal, Mark Bosco has stated under oath that he does not have an obligation to report incidents of students reporting rape or sexual assault to CMPD or CMS police.

MPHS principal, Mark Bosco has created an environment within the administration that does not value or support the statements of alleged victims of sexual assault. Students have reportedly been asked by administrators: “what were you wearing?” “do you have a crush on the boy?” “is he your boyfriend?” “did you go into the woods willingly?” “are you sure you were attacked?” “are you sure you’re being truthful?” “if you’re not telling the truth you can be expelled from campus” All of which are statements that attempt to shame and blame the alleged victims.

For all the above reasons, we demand that CMS remove Mark Bosco as the principal at Myers Park High School.
