Remove mandatory age verification in Discord

The Issue

Starting in March 2026, Discord will require age verification through documents or facial scans. It will also automatically scan behavior and activity using AI for all users including repeat age checks when a user’s behavior is deemed inconsistent with their age.

This update is being enforced on everyone, regardless of country, content, or legal requirements.

Why this is a bad decision and must be reversed:

  • It ends anonymity — Identity verification with ID, facial scans, or behavioral analysis links projected identity to the real world and makes it impossible to be anonymous.
  • It would require constant guarding against and re-verifying the age — AI analyzes messages and activity, and users could be required to re-verify their age if their behavior and activity do not match their age.
  • It doesn't protect young users from predators — These measures increase distrust, encourage avoidance and workarounds, and fail to address real safety problems.
  • This destroys trust — No one wants to give out their documents and data, and they don't trust Discord, especially after the leak in October 2025.
