The Issue

Louise McLaughlan has consistently proven herself to be unfit to serve on our local council. As mother of Graeme Condon, found guilty of  abuse, this councillor stood unwaveringly by him, defending his actions despite the alarming evidence of his violent behaviour toward women—often in the presence of children. Her continued presence on our council is damaging to the community's morale and potentially harmful to our future.

The council must represent the values and needs of the residents it serves, promoting safety, fairness, and integrity. Allowing someone who condones and defends such reprehensible conduct to have a say in our community's future decisions undermines these values. Our representatives should embody the principles of responsibility and accountability. We deserve leaders who prioritize community safety and support victims of abuse, rather than those who offer a platform or excuses for their abusers.

Studies have shown that children who witness violence are at risk of perpetuating similar behaviours as they mature, emphasizing the need for immediate and decisive action against any involvement of individuals who excuse such actions within influential positions. Our children deserve better role models and our community deserves leaders who unequivocally condemn violence in all forms. We cannot risk normalizing or excusing such behaviour.

We are calling on all concerned citizens to stand with us in advocating for a safer and more accountable future. By removing Louise McLaughlan from our council, we make a statement that North Ayrshire values safety and that no position of power will shield or excuse violent behaviour from consequence. We will only be truly secure and united when our leaders reflect and champion these values.
