Linewize is a program that was recently adopted by Lincoln Parish Schools and it has only caused trouble. 

The Highlights:

-Linewize is a program used by some educational institutions to monitor student activity.

-Many teachers have caused nothing but trouble with this, randomly closing programs for some students just to mess with them, even if it’s important work. 

This has recently become an issue in our Parish as a whole. In many classes like English where every second counts, we can’t even use Google.com. Our English teacher claims it’s to make us “more time efficient.” The issue with this is that he has blocked any form of searching for a dictionary website and he have to know the exact URL, we can’t even use a “Turn In” button anymore because of the reroute through Google.

Examples of how this wastes our time: Instead of putting “classroom” into our engine, we have to put “classroom.google.com/classes”.
Instead of putting something in Google for a word like “Enormity definition”, we have to type “Merriam-Webster.org” then type “Enormity”

While I understand that some kids want to goof around, it doesn’t mean that important tools like Google have to be removed. A teacher can get up and walk to manage those things. We also need YouTube for things like our Dual Enrollment classes, yet we have teachers that block YouTube regardless, even in the DE class. 

Another issue that has been voiced by many people around me is that teachers have been remotely closing important programs and non-important programs out of their jurisdiction. They can set their “class period” for any time and block sites for us and close tabs at any moment. 

This has created nothing but trouble for our Parish and our students. I’ve even gotten word that an email had to be sent out to teachers by our principal just to calm the situation down. 

I haven’t even mentioned the anxiety that there is having a teacher able to see what you’re typing in real time and not even knowing if they’re the teacher in your current class. It makes it even worse for some kids who have ADHD and other learning disorders that gives them trouble with staying on task. I know many people who listen to music during some classes that allow it because they work much more efficiently and now they can’t even do that.
