Remove Knife Symbols from UK School Logos and Uniforms by 2030

The Issue

In today’s UK schools, safety, inclusivity, and wellbeing are core values. But many school logos, crests, and uniforms still feature knife, sword, or blade imagery — symbols that may once have had historical meaning but are now out of place in a modern educational environment.

We are calling on UK school governing bodies, academy trusts, local authorities, and the Department for Education to commit to phasing out all knife or weapon symbols from school branding by 2030.

Whether it’s on a badge, blazer, or school website, weapon imagery sends a confusing message to young people at a time when knife crime and violence are real concerns. Our school identities should uplift and unite — not feature symbols that suggest conflict, force, or power.

We ask for:

A nationwide review of school crests and branding across all sectors (state, independent, faith, and academy).

A collaborative redesign process that involves students, staff, alumni, and communities.

A clear commitment to remove all knife or blade symbols by no later than 2030.

We recognise that some designs have historical or cultural roots, but a modern school should reflect modern values. This is about progress — not erasure.

Sign this petition to support peaceful, forward-looking school symbols across the UK. Let’s ensure every child wears a logo that stands for learning, not violence.
