Remove hominid statues at BYU

Remove hominid statues at BYU
The Issue

Our children should grow up with a firm foundation in their divine nature as children of God, not encumbered by the misleading narrative that they are descendants of apes. As a parent and community member, I feel it is crucial that the environments in which our children learn align with the values we hold dear. Brigham Young University (BYU), a leading educational institution known for integrating faith with academics, should reflect these values as well.
The presence of hominid statues on the BYU campus contradicts the fundamental beliefs of many within our community. These statues represent a scientific perspective that can undermine the spiritual teachings that are central to our faith and family life. It is of utmost importance that the symbols and displays at BYU reflect the spiritual teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the core belief that we are created in the image of God.
BYU has a unique opportunity to showcase that science and faith can coexist without compromising religious principles. Removing these statues would be a powerful statement to uphold our religious beliefs while fostering an environment of respect and understanding.
I urge the decision-makers at BYU to take our concerns seriously and consider replacing the hominid statues with displays that reinforce the spiritual truth of our divine heritage. This change would signal to current and future students, parents, and faculty that BYU stands firm in its commitment to nurturing both spiritual and intellectual growth.
Please join me in urging BYU to align its campus displays with the values that define our community. Sign this petition to call for the removal of hominid statues and reinforce our children's identity as cherished children of God.
