The Issue

Imagine driving around your own city, in the comfort of your car, yet constantly being watched. Like many residents of Owensboro and Daviess County, I am deeply concerned about our privacy. Every time I drive by one of those flock cameras, I can't help but feel my privacy is being invaded. These cameras scan my license plate multiple times a day without my consent, turning my day-to-day life into an unwarranted surveillance exercise. This is not just a small inconvenience; it is a blatant violation of our fundamental rights protected under the Fourth Amendment of the United States Constitution.

Flock cameras, while marketed as tools for ensuring public safety, are nothing short of invasive surveillance devices that infringe on our personal freedoms. The Fourth Amendment assures us the right to be secure in our persons, houses, papers, and effects against unreasonable searches and seizures. Yet, these cameras are installed without public consent or forewarning, coercing us into a constant state of surveillance.

The deployment of these cameras was carried out without public consultation, depriving us of the opportunity to voice our opinions and concerns. This unilateral decision demonstrates a severe lack of transparency and a disregard for public privacy. Such practices are commonly exploited by corrupt law enforcement personnel and government officials, undermining the public's trust and further eroding our freedom.

Studies and reports have shown that excessive surveillance has chilling effects on societies, dissuading people from exercising their rights and freedoms. These cameras have no place in a democratic society where privacy should be paramount. Our freedom to live without unwarranted observation is a cornerstone of our democracy.

I urge our local government to listen to the voices of its constituents and immediately remove all flock cameras from Owensboro and Daviess County. It is time to restore our rights and reinforce the principles of privacy that our nation was built upon. Your signature can help preserve our freedom and protect our constitutional rights. Please sign this petition to bring about this crucial change.
