The Issue

In our county, the installation of flock safety cameras has raised significant concerns over privacy and civil rights violations. These cameras, intended for surveillance, are capturing vast amounts of private data, including vehicle locations and movements, without consent from the residents or sufficient oversight. This erosion of our privacy is not just an inconvenience; it is a violation of fundamental civil liberties that are supposed to be protected under law.

Every resident expects their daily activities to be private unless there is probable cause for an intrusion. The widespread and indiscriminate monitoring moves an illegal step further into our lives, creating a chilling effect on the notion of personal privacy.

Statistics indicate that in places where invasive surveillance has been implemented, there has been no consistent reduction in crime rates, thereby questioning the efficacy of such methods. Instead, these technologies often result in marginalized communities being disproportionately targeted and surveilled.

We propose that the county government reevaluate the necessity and impact of these cameras. At the very least, there should be an immediate pause on their operations, followed by a detailed public inquiry into their usage, effectiveness, and implications on individual freedoms. Additionally, residents should have a say in whether such surveillance measures are acceptable in our community.

This petition is about safeguarding our civil rights and exercising our ability to influence decisions that directly affect our community life. Stand with us in advocating for the removal of flock cameras from our county. Please sign this petition to voice your support and protect our privacy rights.
