Our community of Gulf Shores deserves privacy without the hidden eye of surveillance watching our every move. I attended a recent City Council meeting to make a stand against the installation of Flock safety surveillance cameras, which have silently invaded our neighborhoods. These cameras might seem like they enhance security, but independent cybersecurity research has revealed severe security liabilities and privacy failures, proving that these devices can be misused and are a danger to our personal freedoms.

Many residents may not be aware that these cameras autonomously track pedestrians, and even zoom in on children’s faces. This invasive surveillance is not the kind of security measure our community can support.
