The Issue

Remove Flock Cameras from Maricopa, Arizona

We, the undersigned residents and concerned community members, call on the Maricopa City Council to end the City of Maricopa’s use of Flock Safety automated license plate reader cameras and require Flock Safety to remove the cameras from our community.

Flock cameras capture license plate and vehicle information and can create records showing where vehicles have been observed. We are concerned about the collection and storage of information about the everyday movements of residents who are not suspected of committing any crime.

The Fourth Amendment protects Americans against unreasonable searches and seizures. As surveillance technology becomes increasingly powerful, our community must ensure that public safety measures do not come at the expense of privacy, freedom, transparency, and constitutional protections.

We are asking the Maricopa City Council to:

End the City of Maricopa’s use of Flock Safety cameras.
Terminate or decline to renew agreements that allow these cameras to operate in our community.
Direct Flock Safety to deactivate, take down, and physically remove its cameras and related equipment from locations throughout Maricopa.
Protect residents from unnecessary mass vehicle surveillance.
Provide transparency regarding how license plate data has been collected, retained, accessed, and shared.
Put the privacy and constitutional rights of Maricopa residents first.
This petition is not simply asking for changes to how the cameras are used. We are asking for the Flock camera system to be removed from Maricopa.

Public safety and individual liberty do not have to be opposing values. Our community can support effective law enforcement while also protecting the privacy and constitutional rights of the people who live here.

Remove the cameras. Protect our privacy. Protect our Fourth Amendment rights.

Please sign this petition and join us in asking the Maricopa City Council to end the Flock camera program and have the cameras taken down
