Remove Flock and similar surveillance systems
The Issue
In recent years, I have become increasingly concerned about the proliferation of surveillance technologies that infringe upon our constitutional rights and privacy. One such system that stands out is Flock, which, unlike useful technologies such as red light and speeding cameras, enables 24/7 surveillance by creating tracking profiles and saving data on our whereabouts and associations. This is not just an issue of technology; it's about how such systems pave the way to a totalitarian police state.
The dangers of Flock and similar surveillance systems are manifold. These technologies collect and store vast amounts of personal data without sufficient oversight or transparency. This data can include sensitive information about our daily routines, locations, and social connections. The potential for misuse is vast, from violating our privacy to disproportionately targeting marginalized and vulnerable communities. Police are already misusing this data for unwanted monitoring, harassment, racial profiling, annd other discriminatory practices.
The foundational principles of America including the right to privacy and freedom from unwarranted surveillance are at risk. The Fourth Amendment protects us from unreasonable searches and seizures, a protection that extends to all data collected and used against us without our consent. The First Amendment guarantees our freedom of association without government interference. The unchecked growth of surveillance technologies like Flock runs counter to these constitutional protections so must be removed.
We cannot afford to lose our constitutionally guaranteed rights to privacy and freedom of association. Our democracy relies on our ability to live without the fear of state-imposed surveillance. Therefore, I urge lawmakers, community leaders, and concerned citizens to join me in calling for the removal of Flock and similar public surveillance systems. Sign this petition to demand action now, before we find ourselves trapped in an Orwellian future where our every move is monitored and controlled. Your support is critical in safeguarding our constitutional rights and preserving our freedoms. This is already happening in China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran and America should not be following their path.
