Shortly after I last messaged you a couple of days ago, I saw on the news that Labour M.P. for Te Atatu, Phil Twyford had spoken to media about the need for Destiny Church being fully deregistered - it still appears on the registry of charities, which means despite several local branches across the country having been deregistered, either at their request or for failing to meet accounting requirements, Destiny Church at large is still a registered charity.

So, to be clear, the purpose of this petition is to end that registration completely. Destiny Church is not a charity by function. It should not be allowed to claim such status whilst it continues in its current form.

With the Hon. Phil Twyford keen on making a move to get Destiny Church deregistered completely, I am looking at ending this petition possibly early next week and asking Mr Twyfords office if they would accept the petition, which now sits at 13,665+ signatories. This is - assuming all signatures are legitimate and that there are no double ups, 0.25% of the known population of Aotearoa New Zealand!

This far exceeds the outcome that I thought would be happening when I started this barely a week ago. The phenomenal level of support that has been shown by the community is a clear indicator that Destiny Church went too far and that the community want them held accountable for their actions. If this petition helps to achieve that outcome, its job is done.

As this week progresses, I will look into a suitable point to wind the petition up and what the next steps are as well as whether I can get Mr Twyford to accept the petition.

But in the interim, the signature gathering, the korero's, the sharing, the promoting needs to go on.
