Opening weekend at the Georgia Renaissance festival, I witnessed a girl have seizures, a panic attack and relive trauma due to the cannon going off. Her grandparents, who were also veterans, mentioned she had just survived a school shooting and the cannon going off with little warning had sent her right back into a very traumatic headspace. 

I am hoping this can invoke change. A farewell parade, a town crier with bells yelling "get out," a strong recommendation to swap to a less disturbing and traumatizing way of saying "welcome" and "go home." 

This is a place many of us call Home, as friendly and immersive as it is, and it should be for everyone.
