Summary:  We the undersigned citizens of Los Gatos, are greatly concerned about the fire and collapse dangers of the eucalyptus trees which line the sidewalk and one-lane portion of Hilow Road. Eucalyptus are highly inflammable, spray embers in a wildfire, and drop limbs even in calm weather. We live close to and use Hilow Road and the adjacent walking path daily, as do many school children and their parents. Recent events such as the Los Angeles wildfires and the collapse of two large eucalyptus on Overlook Road show that the Hilow trees threaten public health and safety. This petition is submitted consistent with the Town’s top budgetary priority to mitigate wildfire risks.
Action: We ask the Town to prioritize public safety and take immediate action to remove the dangerous Hilow eucalyptus trees and replace them with a benign shade tree species , maintaining the one-way character of the street.
