Aaniin,
We, the Fishing Lake First Nation band members are seeking immediate termination of our school principal Rhonda Kayseas for ignoring ongoing concerns regarding exposure of abuse and failing to report the abuse of our children along with punishing those employees whom spoke up about the abuse.
Our mental health of former and current employees are also a major factor as she bullied, belittled until they could not do their job anymore. We have parents/guardians whom are also impacted and frustrated with the neglect and mistreatment of their children when they go to the school to discuss matters resulting in parents not permitted on school property. Everybody whom comes to her for a resolution ends up portrayed as somebody who needs help or is labeled as a toxic person. She calls our members lazy and expresses this in front of staff and students. She creates a negative space for all students, employees and parents.
The abuse of power within Chief Sabitawasis school is activating past traumas amongst the community and it’s taking its mental toll on all community members. We are supposed to be at a time of reconciliation and healing together but unfortunately circumstances and situations are far from it when our principal fails to be in the best interest of our children and refuses to accept any wrong doing and causes more harm than healing.
For three years our school was operated as a dictatorship and we are tired of the abuse and bullying of all: children, staff and parents. She displays a lack of cooperation to create a positive environment for both students and employees. Our students lost valuable constructive loving relationships with teachers and daycare workers than having to build new relationships with new staff to eventually see them go again. Stability of staff is an ongoing issue as well, attendance because children are afraid to go to school.
Her unethical behaviors take our older generations back to the residential school era because parents are threatened with CFS, child expulsions or threats of children not excelling to the next grade, not writing exams and not graduating resulting in todays petition to stand up for our children, employees and our community.
Complaints of unethical practices should not be swept under the rug or ignored and neither should students, parents/guardians and employees. Students, employees, and parents are advised to only report to the principal. Employees were fired or forced to resign (bullying) when they objected to her practices or if a family member had issues with principal Kayseas.
We , the FLFN members are the parents/guardians, we are former and current employees/staff, we are the community members and we, all signatories below are seeking immediate termination of our school principal Rhonda Kayseas.
Thank you for reading this petition and I hope you all understand terminating her position will create a safer and healthier environment for all students, employees and parents. We are expressing our concerns and exercising our rights to achieve the best positive educational journey for our students and staff.
May this petition be the only action to take to restore a healthy learning environment within Chief Sabitawasis School where protesting would NOT be an option for us Fishing Lake First Nation Band Members.
Sincerely,
Fishing Lake First Nation Band Members, Parents and guardians.
