Removable Batteries For Electric Cars (Swap&Go EVs)
The Issue
The only way to ditch fossil fuels is to adopt renewable energies, and in the auto industry that means EVs. The problem, is that their 40-60 minute charging times are so wildly inconvenient, that people are actively avoiding buying them now because “ain't nobody got time for that”.

[ SWAP-&-GO EVs ]
Gogoro Inc. (Nasdaq: GGR), a Taiwanese company who produces electric scooters with removable batteries, employs a “Swap-&-Go” system (pic. middle ↑) where instead of charging the empty battery on the spot for hours like cars do, they simply remove the empty battery and replace it with an already full one. Taking the charging “pit stop” down from a couple of hours to a couple of minutes, no different than changing batteries on your TV remote.
If electric cars did the same and also came with removable batteries, then this would eliminate their most annoying problem and people would stop avoiding them. [ Of course, Swap-&-Go EVs should still keep their ability to “plug-charge” so we can conveniently use it at home overnight, and to use the current charging infrastructure while the “GoStations” network (pic. middle ↑) is still being installed ]
In addition, another infamous EV pain in the ass is that battery replacement costs typically range from $5,000 to $16,000 depending on model and pack size, and a Swap-&-Go system that comes with removable batteries by default would immediately drop that figure down to $0,000.
[ PETITION ]
Earlier this year the European Union passed a legislation requiring phones and tablets to have removable batteries, in order to reduce waste and increase device lifespan. If you believe “Swap-&-Go” EVs would be an upgrade over the current generation, and so we should pass the exact same legislation but for cars, please sign and share this petition. Thank you.
