As County Councillor for Sherwood Forest, I am asking for your kind support in securing the return of the Thoresby Pit Wheel to its originally proposed location at the entrance to the Thoresby vale estate.

The Thoresby Pit was at the heart of Edwinstowe it provided a shared coal mining heritage shaped the community we know today. It brought employment, led to the building of homes and schools, supported leisure facilities such as the bowls green and tennis courts, created the Miners' Welfare, and helped develop the railway connection that transported coal and ultimately linked with what is now the Robin Hood Line.

The Thoresby vale development itself stands on the site of the former pit. Generations of local people worked there, and some sadly lost their lives in the course of their work. Their contribution and sacrifice should never be forgotten.

Placing the Thoresby Pit Wheel at the entrance to the estate, as was originally proposed, would provide a lasting and dignified reminder of the people whose hard work helped build our community. It would honour our history and ensure future generations understand the significance of the site.
