Relocate the Maintenance Train from Jamaica LIRR Station Away From Residential Areas
The Issue
As residents of 147-25 94th Ave "Alvista Rise", we are challenged everyday by the drastic dismantling of our health and quality of life due to the daily bombardment of toxic fumes bellowing from the Jamaica LIRR maintenance train. I, like my neighbors who call this place home, endure the daily onslaught of environmental discomfort caused by the maintenance engine running 24/7 at the Jamaica LIRR Station, located just a few feet from our homes. The harmful clouds of toxic smoke it generates are unbearably constant, billowing into our homes whenever we have a window open or venture outside.
This situation, however, is not unique to us alone, but affects all residents in the vicinity, including the 147-40 Archer Ave Apartment complex and countless other dwellings and families. Together, these two residential complexes house thousands of families across 1000+ units, all repetitively exposed to this distressing and detrimental condition. We are urging the authorities to address this issue by moving the maintenance train further down the track, away from our homes.
The constant exposure to toxic fumes is not just an inconvenience, but a potential health risk to thousands of people. The health and well-being of the local residents should always be a priority, and a permanent resolution needs to be implemented. The time for change is now.
