What was a nice idea during a pandemic has turned into a ridiculous situation for many Huntingtonians. Once again, the new "tradition" of the Christmas tree placement on Wall Street severely impedes traffic, as it closes off one of three main exits in the town. This unfortunate situation causes considerable inconvenience, not only for the residents living on Wall Street but also those living north of 25A. Blocking essential roads during peak holiday season creates unnecessary congestion and mayhem, which in turn affects the quality of life and festive spirit in our town. Small businesses, understandably fearful of potential backlash, remain silent on the issue, hence this petition seeks to voice out on their behalf.

Moving the Huntington Christmas tree to Heckscher Park would alleviate these issues significantly. The park provides ample space to accommodate vendor booths, food trucks, and running space for children, fostering a lively, community-focused atmosphere. The relocation would transform Heckscher Park into a veritable winter wonderland, with plenty of room for town-organized festivities and imaginative decorations, endorsing community spirit which is one of the core values of the holiday season. (Think Bryant Park!!)

In addition, a potentially advantageous consequence of this move is the potential boost to local businesses. Increased traffic near Heckscher Park could result in additional customers for businesses in the vicinity, promoting local commerce during the crucial holiday season. Allowing our holiday festivities to respect the flow of our traffic system while also creating a convivial environment for residents and businesses alike is a change we need.
