Relocate Pride Month to Promote Mental Health Awareness Equally

The Issue

June is a significant month for many. It's a time to promote inclusivity with Pride Month while also spotlighting serious mental health issues impacting men during Men's Mental Health Month. As someone who has battled depression and grappled with suicidal thoughts, I've personally experienced the overshadowing of Men's Mental Health Month by Pride Month.

Like me, many men fall into the shadows during this time, their struggles, silenced by the louder, more vibrant celebrations of Pride. It is paramount that both causes receive equal attention. According to the American Psychological Association, around 9% of men experience daily feelings of depression or anxiety, yet only 1 in 4 men actually talk about this. Clearly, we need more representation and focus on men's mental health.

Let's propose the relocation of Pride Month to another month, assuring that both causes have their distinct space for awareness and action. This won't undermine the importance of Pride Month, but rather ensure that two living realities of struggle are not competing for the attention they both deserve and desperately need. It's a step towards a more inclusive and empathetic society.

Please, sign this petition and support the equality of representation for both Pride and Men's Mental Health Month.
