The Issue

In past years, the annual carnival at Astoria Park brought joy and excitement to many.   However, its current location in the Astoria Park parking lot has become inadequate to safely accommodate the increasing crowd sizes. Both local residents and carnival-goers face significant risks due to overcrowding, traffic congestion, and the overall impact on the neighborhood environment.

In recent years, the carnival has continued to grow in popularity, attracting visitors from all over New York City. While it's wonderful to see such enthusiasm for this event, the consequence is a dangerous level of overcrowding in a space that can no longer support the volume of attendees. The congestion affects not only those attending the carnival but also the day-to-day lives of the residents in the area, who face overcrowding, blocked roads, limited parking spaces, and extended noise levels.

There are alternative solutions available that can transform this situation into a positive experience for everyone involved. We propose that the carnival organizers collaborate with local authorities to identify and move the event to a larger, safer venue by 2027.

Astoria is a vibrant, diverse community that values both tradition and safety. While we enjoy local events, the carnival has grown to a size that local authorities and the neighborhood can no longer accommodate.

We urge the organizers and relevant stakeholders to make the responsible decision by planning early for this change. Please sign this petition to show your support for a safer, more enjoyable carnival experience for all.
