There is clear perpetuation of dangerous disinformation on Twitter/X, a platform with no effective block function and a troubling role in escalating the U.K. race riots of 2024. It is an environment that I strongly believe is unsuitable for schools, government bodies, and responsible citizens to use.

Worldwide, we're seeing an alarming increase in the spread of disinformation. According to the 2020 Global Disinformation Index, an estimated $235 million is spent on ads that sit next to disinformation, creating a hazard to our ability to engage with credible information and maintain a coherent society (Global Disinformation Index). On Twitter/X, this issue is significantly heightened due to its inability to effectively prevent the spread of misleading content.

Moreover, the detrimental impact of such platforms on social cohesion is becoming increasingly clear, as seen in the scandalous role of Twitter/X in exacerbating the U.K. race riots of 2024. Our educational institutions and government agencies should serve as models of responsible information use and lead the way in abandoning such harmful platforms.
