The Erisite church that follows the goddess of fortuitous destiny Eris herself has been misrepresented. The new variant of covid has been named "Eris", and we of the church dislike this as it ties our benevolent goddess to a terrible disease that has taken the lives of millions. Our deity's name has been slandered and insulted with this decision. Eris is the goddess of fortune, she respects and cares for all her children and seeks to teach us a better version of ourselves, she does not unleash blights and plagues on us as punishment, or for any other reason. We of the church humbly request that the new variant of the coronavirus be renamed to something that will not misrepresent, or discriminate against our, or any other religion, for the sake of upholding the right to religious freedom globally and being generally respectful towards our neighbors that inhabit this earth.
