The Issue

Petition to the Missouri Department of Corrections

We, the undersigned citizens, demand transparency and justice following a jury verdict finding that correctional officers pepper-sprayed Muslim prisoners who were peacefully praying.

A jury awarded $667,000 in damages after determining that the men’s constitutional rights were violated.

However, two critical issues remain unresolved.

OUR DEMANDS
1️⃣ Release the video footage of the February 28, 2021 assault immediately.

The public has a right to see what occurred inside the prison that day.

Transparency is essential for justice and accountability.

2️⃣ Remove Muslim prisoners from gang affiliation files.

Muslim incarcerated individuals are reportedly being labeled as gang members simply for praying together.

Practicing religion is not gang activity.

The Constitution guarantees freedom of religion for all Americans, including those who are incarcerated.

WE CALL ON THE MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS TO:
Release the video evidence to the public
End the practice of labeling Muslim prisoners as gang members
Protect the constitutional rights of incarcerated people
Ensure no prisoner is punished for practicing their faith
Religious freedom does not stop at prison walls.

SIGN AND SHARE THIS PETITION.

Justice requires transparency.
