Release the Ugly Cut of Sonic the Hedgehog!!!

The Issue

When the original trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog (2020) released on April 4th, 2019, Paramount showed us a bold new vision for what the character could look like. This wasn't the sonic you were used to. He was  realistic, gritty, a little ugly, even.

But this bold new direction backfired, as fans misunderstood Sonic's ugliness as a sign that the film was going to be bad. They were so vocal in their complaints, that Paramount backed down on its artistic vision, deferring to the fans. Hindsight is 20/20, and obviously we now know that the Sonic movie, and its subsequent films, were in fact quite good.

In light of this, the fans are finally ready to see this film as it was originally intended to be seen, ugly Sonic and all. Paramount Pictures, with the release of Sonic 3, it is finally time to release the true, ugly cuts of Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, and 3.

This is not the first instance of a studio releasing a film due to a fan petition. In 2019, DC fans came together to campaign for the release of Zack Snyder's original cut of The Justice League, a project he'd walked away from due to personal circumstances. Warner Bros. had not announced any plans to release to the fans Zack Snyder's original artistic vision. But thanks to pressure from the campaign, the fans won out, as Warner Bros. realized there was demand for this film. Fans have gotten films released before, we can do it again!

The original artistic intention behind Sonic the Hedgehog's design in the films has been temporarily lost to us, but this need not be permanent. We, as fans, can act now to ensure this masterpiece is not lost forever! But we've got to go fast! If you believe in this cause, just say "Um... Meow?" and sign!

Thank you so much for your support of this cause!
