Despite the global success that The Little Mermaid has had in theaters around the world, many countries were only able to enjoy the IMAX version of the film for one week in theaters, and some countries were not even able to enjoy the experience.

Rob Marshal, the director, has talked on multiple occasions about how impressive The Little Mermaid looks in giant picture format and has talked about the scenes that were specially shot for that format, and it is very unlikely that Disney will release the IMAX version in the video platform.
