Nik Yousefi, a courageous and famous Iranian film editor and director, has been arrested since October 16, 2022. The 28-year-old videomaker has been making short films and music videos that have critical views on Iran's political and social situation and support Iranian people's liberty. However, his last work, a one-minute music video named " Woman, Life, Freedom " which supports Iranian protests, became viral on social media among protesters and Iranian people.

Last week Yousefi said in a tweet that he left Tehran and turned off his mobile phone to avoid being arrested by security agents. Yousefi also noted that the security agents went to his friend's house to arrest him using the private information available in the SnappFood application, but he was not there. Security agents managed to capture Nik Yousefi on October 16 at another place. Since his detention, his Twitter and Instagram accounts which had 300,000 followers, were deactivated by security agents. The reason for this arrest, his whereabouts, and the charges are still unknown.

Nik Yousefi has been detained because of practicing filmmaking and film editing, which is his profession. Filmmaking and film editing are not crimes, so Nik Yousefi and all artists should not be in prison. Yousefi has always been our voice; now it is our turn to be his voice. Immediate response and action from United Nations are requested for the immediate release of Nik Yousefi.
