Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, a Palestinian father, son, and Director of Kamal Adwan hospital was abducted in Gaza and taken to the Sde Teiman torture facility. His work involved directly treating Gazans and providing medical care to forcibly displaced and injured citizens impacted by the relentless campaign of violence by the IOF, the genocide against Palestinians. This incident is not just an attack on one individual but a blatant disregard for human rights.

The abduction of Dr. Hussam is part of a larger systemic issue where numerous civilians, humanitarian, & medical personnel have been unlawfully detained without any charges or trial. 450 Health Care Workers have been abducted by the Israeli army, part of its goal of wiping out Gazas Health Care infrastructure and making conditions of life unbearable and intolerable for Palestinians. According to B'Tselem - The Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories, at the end of June 2024, there were approximately 3,340 Palestinians held in Israeli prisons (B'Tselem) without being charged or given a trial. 

The work of Dr. Hussam is crucial in providing medical care to those affected by this genocide. His absence has left many vulnerable individuals and patients without support they desperately need.

We call upon Politicians, and heads of states to demand the immediate release of the 450 Health Care Workers including Dr. Hussam and to demand that the Government of Israel respect international and humanitarian laws regarding the protection of civilian, medical, & humanitarian personnel.
