We the undersigned, friends and supporters of Asma AlSubai demand her immediate and unconditional release from Saudi prisons.

In June 2021, almost a year ago, Asma (24) , a business student at Princess Noura University, was detained. Saudi State Security agents stormed her house in Riyadh, and forcibly disappeared her for a period of time, before her family was able to find her location. To date she has neither been indicted nor tried.

Asma is a women rights defender. Her accounts on social media were large platforms for documenting and criticizing violations against women in Saudi Arabia and the Arab world. Her activism was not exclusively about gender discrimination; she also spoke out against all forms of social injustices, including issues related to poverty and labor rights.

Even after Asma’s detention, her voice remains a bone in their throats. As it angered the authorities to the point where they delegated fake accounts on social media that are alleging to her friends that she’s being raped in prison. They further menaced them with the same fate if they continue to speak up about her, in effort to deter them from advocating for Asma and other human rights violations within Saudi Arabia.

Asma mentioned that she received threats to shut her social media accounts on several occasions. She however categorically refused to be intimidated into silence, and submit to policies of terrorizing and silencing. Just a few days before she got arrested, she asked her friends not to stop talking about her in that event. Here we are still speaking up, and we shall not be brought to silence!

It is not strange for the Saudi authority to utilize and misuse they’re arbitrary laws and practices as a method in stifling dissent; furthered by fake cyber accounts to amplify fear among activists. As such, all must stand in solidarity with Asma and all other prisoners of conscience. 

If the Saudi authorities believe they have succeeded in canceling Asma’s voice, they are mistaken. We are all her voice. Please help us in building the pressure needed to compel the Saudi authorities to release her. Join us in signing the petition, and actively posting on the hashtag #ReleaseAsma.

نحن الموقعين أدناه، أصدقاء ومناصري أسماء السبيعي نطالب بإطلاق سراحها بشكل فوري وغير مشروط من سجون السلطات السعودية

مضى ما يقارب عام كامل، أي منذ يونيو/ حزيران 2021 على اعتقال أسماء، ابنة ال24 عاما والطالبة في جامعة الأميرة نورة تخصص إدارة أعمال. حيث قامت الأجهزة الأمنية التابعة للسلطات السعودية بمداهمة منزلها في الرياض و تغييبها قسريا لفترة من الزمن حتى تمكنت عائلتها من معرفة مكان اعتقالها. حتى اللحظة لم يوجه لها أي لائحة اتهام أو حكم

أسماء من أبرز النشطاء في قضايا حقوق المرأة، حيث كانت حساباتها على وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي من أهم المنصات التي توثق وتنتقد الانتهاكات التي تتعرض لها المرأة في السعودية وفي الوطن العربي بشكل عام. لكن نشاطها لم يقتصر على حقوق المرأة، حيث أنها استخدمت منصتها للدفاع عن حقوق جميع الفئات المظلومة في المجتمع، بما في ذلك القضايا الاجتماعية المتعلقة بالواقع المعيشي وحقوق العمل 

لقد أغضب صوت أسماء الحر السلطات السعودية لدرجة أنها انتدبت حسابات وهمية على تويتر في شهر سبتمبر/ أيلول الماضي لمراسلة صديقاتها اللواتي يتحدثن بقضيتها، لتدعي أنها تتعرض للإغتصاب في سجنها  وتهدد النشيطات الأخريات بمصير مشابه، آملين بذلك ردعهم عن مناصرة اسماء و مناقشة الوضع الإنساني المتدهور بالسعودية

أسماء قبل اعتقالها كانت قد أعربت عدة مرات عن خوفها من هذا المصير وعن تعرضها للتهديد والابتزاز لإغلاق منصاتها، ولكنها أبت أن تكتم صوتها بسبب سياسة الترهيب والوعيد. قبيل اعتقالها بقليل طلبت من أصدقائها ألا يتوقفوا عن  الحديث عنها إذا ما تم اعتقالها. وها نحن لم ولن نصمت

ليس من الغريب على السلطات السعودية اساءة استخدام قوانينها و ممارساته الاستبدادية؛ ملحق باستخدام جيش الكتروني لنشر الخوف في نفوس النشطاء الحقوقيين. و عليه، على جميع الأحرار التكاتف مع اسماء و مع جميع معتقلي الرأي

إذا ظنت السلطات أنها اسكتت أسماء، فكلنا صوتها، ساعدونا أجل حشد الضغط الكافي لإطلاق سراحها سراح جميع معتقلي الرأي في السعودية من خلال التوقيع على العريضة والتغريد بكثافة على وسم #افرجوا_عن_اسماء_يا_حكومة
