The Issue

The Simpsons: Hit & Run, released in 2003, was an instant classic. By 2007, it had sold over 3 million copies and to this day, it remains one of the most beloved Simpsons games of all time. It perfectly captured the humour, characters, and world of The Simpsons, bringing Springfield to life in 3D while offering open-world gameplay that fans still rave about.

Despite its overwhelming success and continued fan enthusiasm, the game never received a true sequel; only The Simpsons Game in 2007, which, while entertaining, didn't quite reach the same heights. It's time that changed.

What a remake/sequel could include:

  • Expanded playable characters: Include iconic Springfield residents like Flanders, Grandpa, Principal Skinner, Willy, Otto, Dr. Hibbert, Chief Wiggum, Krusty, Moe, and Barney
  • More varied combat: Introduce additional, comical attacks like punching, while maintaining a 7+ or 12+ age rating to keep it family-friendly.
  • Bigger, connected world: Instead of separate level zones, let players explore a fully connected Springfield - open-world style.
  • More levels, more content: Go beyond the original’s 7 levels with more missions, more vehicles, more side activities, and more collectibles.
  • Modern graphics and platforms: Remake or sequel should be developed for current-gen platforms like PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One/Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 with updated visuals and smoother gameplay.
  • Improved exploration: More accessible interiors (like full homes and buildings), more accurate geography, and even new forms of transportation.

YouTuber "Reubs" has already made headlines by remaking parts of the game from scratch as a fan project. If one fan can do that, imagine what an official studio could achieve with the proper backing.

The demand is real, the fans are here, and nostalgia is at an all-time high. Whether it’s a full-blown sequel or a lovingly crafted remake, it’s time for The Simpsons: Hit & Run to make its return.
