Current school policies in Richmond, TX severely limit in-school phone usage. These restrictions do not merely extend to classroom hours, but also span the duration of class transitions, advisory periods, and even after class work is completed and handed in. It is vital to mention that 95% of teens in America have access to a smartphone, which isn't purely for leisure, but often used as an essential tool for communication, learning, and safety (Pew Research Center, 2018). These advocated changes to the existing school policies would promote a more relaxed, trusting environment that acknowledges the important role of these devices in our lives. Let's urge the school board to revise their policies and allow more lenient phone usage during class transitions, advisory, and upon completion of class work. In addition to revising the phone regulations, we seek the reinstatement of the freedom to roam the halls in the morning before the first period bell.
