The Issue

Living in Kenya and being subject to the ever-increasing burden of taxation without seeing any tangible benefits or improvements in public services is an outright injustice. The Finance Bill 2025 proposes additional taxes that are not only punitive but do nothing to address the rampant misuse and embezzlement of funds collected from hard-working citizens like myself. Despite paying our dues diligently, Kenyans, including me, are left to struggle with minimal or no returns on these financial contributions.

The new taxes specified in the Finance Bill 2025 are set to exacerbate this situation by introducing levies that will significantly impact our daily lives. These taxes include increased VAT on essential goods and services which directly affect our cost of living. It's crucial to note that the management and allocation of the current taxes have been tainted by embezzlement and corruption scandals, leaving citizens skeptical about any new financial impositions. Just like many others, I find myself in a situation where my tax shillings seem to vanish into thin air, fueling a system plagued with corruption rather than driving meaningful change.

Why should we endure further economic strain when the taxes we pay end up filling the pockets of corrupt individuals instead of funding development and public infrastructure projects? The recent Transparency International Report highlighted Kenya as one of the most corrupt nations, with millions disappearing into the hands of a few greedy individuals. It is crucial that this cycle of exploitation stops. The government must prioritize fiscal responsibility, transparency, and accountability before considering any new taxation measures.

The rejection of this Finance Bill is not merely about opposing new taxes; it is about demanding a government that respects its citizens and uses its resources wisely and effectively. We need a concurrence between tax levies and national development, not further impoverishment. A fair taxation system should reflect the interests and welfare of its citizens, promoting equality and prosperity.

I urge fellow Kenyans and concerned citizens to stand up against this unjust proposition and demand the rejection of the Finance Bill 2025. Let us hold our leaders accountable and press for a transparent and equitable approach to taxation that genuinely fosters national growth. Please sign this petition and help preserve the well-being of Kenyans by advocating for a fair, sensible, and corruption-free regulatory environment.
