The Issue

The proposed advertising tax currently being considered by the Mayor and Tucson City Council poses a serious threat to the city’s vibrant advertising, media, and creative sectors. These industries are essential to Tucson’s economic and cultural life. They help local businesses grow, inform residents, and showcase the city’s creativity to the world.

An advertising tax would raise costs for small and mid-sized businesses, limit their ability to reach customers, and reduce the flow of work that supports local creatives, agencies, and media outlets. Similar measures in other states have been withdrawn or struck down for being economically harmful and difficult to enforce.

Rather than a tax that slows growth, we urge city officials to partner with Tucson’s business, creative, and community leaders on solutions that grow revenue through opportunity, not penalty. Together, we can attract new creative industries, support local businesses, and strengthen Tucson’s reputation as a center for media production and innovation.

This proposal would weaken one of Tucson’s most dynamic sectors and the small businesses that depend on it. We ask the Mayor and City Council to reject the proposed advertising tax and instead engage in open dialogue with the business and creative communities to strengthen Tucson’s economy together.

Join us in standing for Tucson’s local economy. Sign the petition and help keep jobs, creativity, and opportunity growing right here in our city.
