The Issue

My brother lost his life due to someone's blatant disregard for public safety and a total disrespect for the law. Struck with immense force, he endured unimaginable suffering, which not only severed his leg but also cost the life of his beloved dog—his best friend, emotional support, and service dog, a companion he held as family. The pain is amplified knowing that he died alone. It took five agonizing days before we were notified of the tragic accident. This is not justice.

The plea deal offered to Christian Garcia is completely unjust and alarmingly lenient considering the gravity of his actions. It is alleged that the court has expedited this case resolution to accommodate a judge's impending department transfer. Such haste undermines the very essence of justice and fairness. How does a logistical change in the judiciary justify compromising the proper review and trial of such a grievous crime?

The decision to accept a plea deal in this case, which fundamentally overlooks the severity, the pain endured by my brother, and the loss felt by our family, is misleading and deeply unfair. Instead of providing closure, it opens wounds fresh and raw, offering a mere shadow of justice.

We demand that the judge reject this plea deal. This case deserves the scrutiny and deliberation of a trial so that the truth can be properly acknowledged, and justice can be served appropriately. The life of my brother, his sacrifices, and his beloved dog's memory warrant more than a curt, procedural wrap up. They deserve to be honored in the very system meant to protect and uphold justice.

Sign this petition to convince the judge to reconsider the current lenient plea deal and to ensure that justice prevails for those lost and affected by this tragedy. Our call is for a fair trial and the due consideration that this case genuinely merits. Only through a rightful trial can we hope to honor the memory of those we've lost, and the values of justice and fairness we hold dear.
