Reject the expansion of cannabis dispensaries into additional areas of our village
The Issue
EDIT: DO NOT MAKE A DONATION!
We, the residents of the Village of Lake Success, oppose the proposed zoning changes that would permit cannabis dispensaries in our community.
Families choose Lake Success for a reason. They make significant financial sacrifices to live here because of the safety of our neighborhoods, the strength of our schools, and the belief that their children will grow up in an environment that protects their health and future. This is not an accident of geography. It is the result of deliberate choices made by generations of residents and local leaders who understood what made this village worth protecting.
The proposed zoning changes threaten exactly that.
A cannabis dispensary brings consequences that are incompatible with the character of our village. Increased foot traffic in quiet residential streets. Commercialization that erodes the family-oriented environment we have worked hard to build. Added strain on local law enforcement, which would need to redirect resources to address the crime and safety concerns that follow these businesses. These are not hypothetical worries. They are patterns documented in communities that moved forward without asking the hard questions first.
Research has linked cannabis dispensaries to declining property values and increased neighborhood disorder. The revenue projections offered in support of this change rest on uncertain assumptions. What is not uncertain is the risk to residents.
The question before the Board is not whether a dispensary can generate tax revenue. The question is whether that potential revenue is worth the long-term cost to the character of our community, the quality of life of our neighbors, and the environment in which our children are being raised.
We say it is not. Sign below to make your voice heard.
