Reject the Data Center & Stop the Build!

Reject the Data Center & Stop the Build!
The Issue
For over two decades, I've had the privilege of calling Marysville, Ohio my home. The tight-knit community, the lush landscapes, and the general quality of life here have been instrumental in shaping my love for this town. It is not just a place to live, but a foundation of experiences and memories shared with family and friends. However, the proposed data center threatens this very essence and potentially jeopardizes our community's future. One of the primary concerns arising from the establishment of a data center in Marysville is the tremendous water consumption required for its operation. According to the United Nations, our world is on the brink of a water bankruptcy crisis, a dire situation exacerbated in areas hosting such resource-intensive facilities. Around the globe, communities situated near data centers have reported severe water shortages, skyrocketing utility costs, and diminished water quality. These are circumstances Marysville simply cannot afford. Historically, data centers have consumed millions of gallons of water daily, necessary for cooling operational systems to prevent overheating. This enormous water demand not only strains local water supplies but also can contribute to elevated water prices for residential use, making basic access to water increasingly unaffordable. Our community risks facing these very challenges if the proposed zoning approval is granted. Beyond water consumption, the construction of a data center may lead to increased pollution, noise, and a significant deviation from the quiet, serene environment that Marysville's residents appreciate and deserve. We must prioritize our town's well-being, ensuring that decisions made today do not compromise the environmental sustainability and quality of life for future generations. Thus, I urge the Marysville City Council to seriously consider the long-term implications of this data center and to reject the zoning approval that would allow its construction. Let us preserve the unique character of Marysville and protect the resources vital to our community's health and prosperity. For the good of Marysville and its people, I ask you to stand with me in opposition to this proposal. Please sign this petition to send a bold message to the City Council: we value our water, our environment, and our community's future more than short-term economic gains.
