Reject The Construction of "The Jacobs" on Marshall Street at Syracuse University

Reject The Construction of "The Jacobs" on Marshall Street at Syracuse University
The Issue
We call on the city of Syracuse and Syracuse University to wholly reject the development of a apartment building on Marshall Street proposed by The Scripa Group.
Marshall Street is a cultural cornerstone for the University and the city of Syracuse, and this development would negatively impact the surrounding area.
- The building is unsightly. It towers above the rest of the surrounding area, and its modern "aesthetic" is devoid of character--putting it at odds with the rest of Marshall Street.
- The construction process will undoubtedly cause harm to the economy of the surrounding area, both in noise pollution and aesthetics. Nearby business like Pita Pit will suffer from reduced foot traffic, and popular businesses within the development such as NY Exotic and T-Shirt World would cease to exist.
- There is valid concern that the development may be unaffordable to a significant group of students affected by the SU housing crisis.
- This development does little to address the core issues surrounding SU's housing crisis--for example, SU raising acceptance rates.
- The development is extremely unpopular with SU students, with overwhelmingly negative comments on social media accounts such as @BarstoolCuse and @SyracuseHistory
As of now, The Scripa Group is actively campaigning to get this development approved by the city and the University, so we must act now if we have any chance of stopping it.
