SAY 'NO' to D107’s $37 Million Early Childhood Center on County Line Rd. in Burr Ridge
The Issue

SAY 'NO' to Pleasantdale D107's proposed $37 Million Early Childhood Center on South County Line Road in Burr Ridge.
Pleasantdale School District is planning to build a $37 Million Early Childhood Center at 8501 & 8505 S. County Line Road in Burr Ridge; the land purchase contract was approved by the School Board and signed in June 2023, and without much prior public knowledge, the district held only 2 informational meetings on October 12th to obtain the community's input. Based on the feedback from these meetings, and the recent mailed public opinion survey (or the online version via link below), the D107 school board will vote on Dec. 6th whether or not to put the $38.2 Million referendum on the March 2024 ballot. Join me in telling the school board to VOTE NO to putting the referendum on the ballot!
This project will not only INCREASE OUR TAXES for the next 20 years (via a General Obligation School Bond), it will increase the school district's operating costs by over $1 Million per year. A campus of this size will disrupt the peace and tranquility of the Burr Ridge residential area with traffic congestion and pollution. In addition, it will pose safety concerns for children and motorists during busy drop off and pick up times throughout the day on an already highly trafficked County Line Rd.
Moreover, it is unnecessary to spend $37 Million during a recession when there are other areas within the Pleasantdale School District that could benefit from funding, such as: expanding and upgrading current educational facilities for K-8 students (including school safety/security updates), and increasing teacher/support staff salaries and benefits to maintain retention.
District 107 has not shown a sufficient need to support a $37 Million taxpayer investment to build a 3rd campus in Burr Ridge to provide FREE Universal Preschool (which is not state mandated). While early childhood education is undoubtedly important, we must consider if investing such an enormous sum into one facility is the best use of taxpayer funds. **To note, current enrollment trends do not demonstrate a need for a 3rd campus in a district with just over 800 students. In addition, Pleasantdale currently offers tuition-based half day Pre-school for 3 and 4 year olds.
I urge you to consider this project's cost implications, the necessity of it, and its location. Let us prioritize maintaining the quality of life in Burr Ridge while ensuring prudent use of public/taxpayer funds. Please sign this petition to voice your opposition to Pleasantdale's proposed $37 Million Early Childhood Center on County Line Rd.
**Watch for the D107 survey mailer that will be received by all district residents this week. Please take the survey and SAY ‘NO’ to the $37 Million Early Childhood Center!**
**Donations are not necessary to sign the petition. Any donations made go directly to change.org.**
