The Issue

Our public libraries in Ohio not only provide books, movies, and music for all ages, but also critical programs like Storytime, Makerspace, Crafterwork, and Adult Literacy Education. These spaces become our community hubs, offering public computers, internet access, and countless other resources. For almost 100 years, Ohio's public libraries have relied on state partnerships to deliver these essential local services. However, the proposed changes threaten to reduce library funding by 100 million dollars over the next two years, with no guarantees for state funding after 2027.

To put this in perspective, our libraries are currently operating on the same budget as the year 2000, without any adjustment for over 25 years of inflation. This lack of financial support will drastically affect the quality and availability of services that libraries can offer. The consequences of this proposal would be felt across the state, as libraries struggle to support their communities with fewer resources.

We firmly believe in the power and necessity of public libraries, and the thought of this support being removed is alarming. By signing this petition, you join us in sending a clear message to our legislators: we value our public libraries, and we oppose any reductions to their funding. Stand with us in support of Ohio's Public Library Fund, so we can continue to amplify the importance and impact of libraries in our communities for years to come. Sign the petition now.
