During the British Columbia Teachers Federation (BCTF) Annual General Meeting on March 16-19th 2024, a motion was passed to lobby the Ministry of Education & Childcare to add the Nakba, as well as military occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip to the curriculum.

We are concerned parents that wish to petition the Ministry of Education & Childcare to outright reject this proposal.

The role of a teacher in a child’s life is paramount and should not be used to advance any political agenda. By introducing such a change to the curriculum, it has the potential to increase targeted hatred of specific children thus creating an unsafe learning environment. 

For years the BCTF has harboured strong opinions on an array of topics, many of which have no place in the classrooms of British Columbia, this is one of those topics.
