Reject High Density Housing in Downtown Mt Juliet City Block

The Issue

Dear Commissioners,

On October 23, 2023, please vote NO for the Downtown Mount Juliet City Block proposal in its current state. Currently, a 245 unit, four story multifamily apartment building between E. Caldwell and Hill Street is part of the proposal.

We are current residents of Mount Juliet who OPPOSE this high-density living proposal as it will overwhelm infrastructure, could adversely impact the value of our properties, and decrease the quality of life and safety of the current residents.

The 31 units per acre is a misrepresentation of density since you are considering the entire project area for your calculations, not just that which is used for residential. The proposed road updates and parking are insufficient for a project of this magnitude. No doubt, congestion will be an issue.

As it is, the proposed project does not seem to be beneficial to residents in the area. Traditionally, government office space and apartments/townhouses without community amenities, bring no value to surrounding homes but to the contrary will work in detriment to them. The neighborhood will be crowded, dull, and noisy, creating value only to the developer and people that have interests vested in the project.

We urge you to consider the needs of our current community - not just buildings for future residents. A downtown should represent our city, increase the curb appeal of the area, bring the community together, and add value to the surrounding properties - we hope you listen to the desires of our residents and do what is right for the citizens that you represent. Revitalize Mount Juliet as a family friendly place; build an attractive and beautiful downtown that can make our city proud!
