Reject development application for 20 Ali Place, Glenwood
The issue
The proposed development at 20 Ali Place threatens this harmony with plans for demolition, a 6-lot residential subdivision, and an extension of Poppy Way.

The impact of such a development on our close-knit community would be profound. Glenwood is already grappling with issues of traffic congestion and limited parking spaces. The additional road construction and increased residential units will exacerbate these problems, leading to safety concerns for pedestrians, especially schoolchildren and elderly. Furthermore, the environmental consequences, such as loss of green space and increased noise and air pollution, cannot be overlooked.
Statistics show that similar developments have caused property values in neighboring areas to fluctuate, often leaving residents worried about potential losses in their investments. Additionally, there are concerns regarding the strain on local amenities, including schools, parks, and healthcare services, which are already stretched thin.
This petition is a plea to Blacktown City Council and the NSW Land and Environment Court to prioritize the well-being of Glenwood residents over unnecessary urban sprawl. There are more sustainable and community-friendly alternatives that can be explored, such as enhancing existing infrastructures and focusing on sustainable urban planning that preserves the character and charm of our suburb.
I am writing to formally lodge my strong objection to the amended Development Application DA-25-02117, which proposes a 6-lot residential subdivision and the physical extension of Poppy Way.
Objections are grounded in the following serious impacts on the local infrastructure and community amenity:
Severe Traffic Congestion & Safety Risks:
The physical opening and extension of Poppy Way will inadvertently turn our quiet, local residential streets into a high-volume traffic thoroughfare. This will significantly exacerbate the heavy traffic already generated by visitors and worshippers travelling to the local temple in the immediate area.
Inadequate Street Infrastructure:
The surrounding local roads—specifically Poppy Way, Hoya Place, Frangipani Ave, and Matlock Place—are narrow, low-capacity residential streets. They were never designed or engineered to withstand cut-through traffic or the increased vehicular load this connection will create. Increased traffic on these narrow roads poses a direct safety risk to pedestrians, particularly children and the elderly.
Negative Impact on Street Ambiance and Character:
The proposed subdivision and through-road construction will fundamentally destroy the quiet, family-friendly street ambiance and residential character of this pocket of Glenwood. The influx of vehicles will significantly drive up local noise pollution and diminish the peaceful enjoyment of our properties.
Preservation of Local Amenity:
Under the Blacktown Development Control Plan (DCP), developments must protect the existing amenity of surrounding neighbours. This proposal directly threatens our local amenity, safety, and everyday accessibility.
By refusing Application DA-25-02117, we can protect the unique identity of Glenwood and prevent a precedent that may encourage further intrusive and unsustainable developments in our area.
Please sign this petition to help us preserve the integrity and quality of life in Glenwood. Together, we can make our voices heard and ensure that our community remains a place where future generations can thrive.
