Reject DA168/2023 proposed UNSW / Iglu Development Application at 215B Anzac Parade

Reject DA168/2023 proposed UNSW / Iglu Development Application at 215B Anzac Parade
The issue
We are a local residents lobby group strongly believe that the proposed development application at 215B Anzac Parade should be rejected.
UNSW and developer IGLU have proposed a large tower development at the car park adjacent to NIDA on Anzac Parade. It includes two buildings which are between 19 and 23 storeys, or 76m tall.
Sign our petition to stop this development going ahead !
Our Petition will be submitted to Randwick Council and to the State Government requesting that this development is rejected and that the height is lowered to an appropriate height.
The development will have a huge impact on our homes, the character of the neighbourhood and will set a dangerous precedent for out of scale development in the future. Our key objections are:
1. The proposed height is 23 and 19 storeys which is disproportionately tall. The allowable height is 9 storeys.
2. The proposal is an example of over development and should be reduced in height.
3. The building is an inappropriate scale of proposed and dwarfs existing buildings neighbouring the site and along Anzac Parade.
4. Lack of visual privacy resulting from the proposed towers and increased noise impacts on adjacent residential properties west and south of the development.
5. Increased overshadowing and substantial loss of solar access and morning sunlight to residential properties.
6. Obtrusive visual bulk which is out of place in its context, and the reduction of local character.
7. The lack of proper community consultation undertaken by the Applicant with neighbours to the site.
8. The lack of a planning proposal and detailed urban design study to propose appropriate height, massing, FSR, GFA and scale constraints to the site.
9. The disregard of existing Kensington character west and south of the site, resulting in a loss of amenity and quality of living for residents.
10. Lack of parking. There will be no additional parking, despite adding over 1000 additional residents.
11. Impacts during the construction period on the local community.
We are not against appropriate development, however the community has not had the opportunity to comment or suggest amendments to the DA prior to lodgement with Randwick Council. There is little awareness of this development.
In addition to Council’s rejection of this proposal in its current form, we believe that proper and adequate community consultation should be undertaken to ensure that a well-sited, appropriate and sympathetic building is to be approved.
Please sign our petition to help us get a balanced, sensitively designed and lower scale building approved at 215B Anzac Parade.
