The prospect of a quarry being established by Borals in the Reedy Creek/Tallebudgera area is a distressing reality for many residents. A quarry close to our homes and schools poses significant risks. One of the major concerns is silica dust pollution. Silica, a component released during quarry operations, has been linked to serious respiratory illnesses, particularly affecting children whose immune and respiratory systems are still developing. Exposure can lead to chronic health conditions, compromising the quality of life of our young ones.

Moreover, the noise pollution from the quarry operations and the increased heavy vehicle traffic will disrupt the daily lives of residents. The operations will generate incessant noise that will not only disturb the tranquillity of our suburb but also have adverse effects on mental health, especially for our children who need quiet environments for learning and development.

Additionally, the increased traffic from heavy vehicles is a safety hazard and will significantly contribute to emissions and congestion. The potential for accidents involving these vehicles is a grave concern, heightening the chances of child fatalities near school zones.

The Gold Coast Council holds the responsibility and authority to protect our community. They have the power to reject the planning approvals for Borals Reedy Creek/Tallebudgera Quarry proposal.
