The Wave Streetcar was resoundingly rejected Tuesday night. But by yesterday, the County Commission had still not place it on the agenda for Tuesday’s meeting. Behind the scenes, the conversation was about how the project would be kept alive until the price could be brought below 125%. In some people’s minds, that would mean the project will go ahead.
Twice the project has been bid. Twice it has come in over 125%. The second bid removed things like the vehicle maintenance and storage facility which was then bid separately. In other words, the work would still have to be done – and paid for by the taxpayers – but it would be outside of what FDOT has to contribute to. Our City Commission followed the Amended ILA and exercised their option to get out of the project. Now the County needs to follow through!
Thank you to Mayor Dean Trantalis who sent the letter below to County Mayor Beam Furr.
Thank you also to County Commissioner Nan Rich who filed a supplementary agenda item for the meeting Tuesday, May 8th which is a MOTION TO DISCUSS AND DIRECT the County Administrator, in consultation with the County Attorney, to notify the Florida Department of Transportation that the County is unable to provide its assent to continuing the Wave Streetcar Project, consistent with the terms of the Wave Project Agreement, due to the action taken by the City of Fort Lauderdale on May 1, 2018.
Also, thank you to Mayor Beam Furr who responded to Mayor Trantalis that there would be an item on Tuesday’s agenda.
The Agenda Item will be sent in a later email.
There are two articles with regarding The Wave which may be of interest.
