What is going on here?
Tim Smith is emailing to hundreds of “influential” people and Voters, slinging mud at Fellow Candidate, Steve Glassman. Why? Judging from these emails, Tim Smith is not the leader we need to solve Fort Lauderdale’s pressing problems.
We need Commissioners and a Mayor who are not controlled by developers, lobbyists, outside politicians and special interests. We need leaders who are going to solve problems and bring people together...not tear us apart. This does not seem to describe Tim Smith.
Thank you Steve Glassman for keeping this Commission Race dignified.

“Tim Smith wrote:
“The historical Annie Beck House was managed until last year by a group I am President of ( Central City Alliance) , and area groups used it for meetings and events, a real positive for the community.... Steve Glassman (President of the Broward Trust for Historic Preservation) took control if (sic) it a year ago, and it has been basically abandoned, is boarded up, and was posted as the "smoke house" on the internet. Unsavory characters hang on the back porch, homeless live underneath .... It has become a real problem, and Steve told me that it's not his problem, he says call the Police ... Well now someone was murdered just feet away, and the surrounding neighbors are very upset that the house that Steve manages is a real contributing factor to the problems in the Park ....”
Tim Smith Statements hi-lighted in yellow with my comments below.
· The historical Annie Beck House was managed until last year by a group I am President of (Central City Alliance), and it was used by area groups for meetings and events, a real positive for the community....
As the manager of the Annie Beck house, Smith and his group thought they should have complete control over who uses the house. The truth is Central City Alliance used the house along with a smattering of unknown groups here and there. (Ex. Love Burn/Burning Man group) The Trust and the Fort Lauderdale Junior Women’s Club used the property too. Shortly after the FLJRWC has use of the house, Tim lets me know he regrets his decision and makes it very clear that he dislikes me. He also excludes his very own neighborhood and their own Middle River Terrace Neighborhood Association from using the house. Tim never let anyone use the house if he or his board did not like or approve of them. Not very inclusive or positive for a community, in my estimation.
· Tim Smith says Steve Glassman (President of the Broward Trust for Historic Preservation) took control “if” it a year ago,
Fact: The Trust ,not Steve Glassman, took over the management of the house after Central City Alliance aka 13th Street Alliance decided they no longer wanted to manage the Annie Beck property. The Alliance wanted complete control over the Annie house. We refused. Compounded by the fact that Tim disliked me and wanted me removed from the Trust board. Steven refused and Tim left in a huff. Along with Smith's departure went a good portion of the donated furnishings in the house which even included the kitchen stove – ripped right out of the wall! Not very leadership like, in fact, I found it downright childish. With the help of a historic preservationist, we ascertained the number of repairs the house needed due to the neglect of Tim Smith. As VP, I began overseeing the needed repairs.
· Tim Smith says the house has been abandoned, is boarded up, and was posted as the "smokehouse" on the internet. Unsavory characters hang on the back porch, homeless live underneath...
NOT TRUE! The Annie house is not abandoned! Under Smiths watch, I called him to ask for his help in boarding up the house with the threat of a hurricane Mathew 2016 I am told I should figure it out; he has no interest in helping. Our beloved little house, yes, was abandoned then by Tim Smith!
Abandoned? The fact is the Annie house (all decorated for the holidays!) was open to the public for free as part of our recent annual www.historicholidayhometour.org - hardly call that abandoned! Yes, It was boarded up for hurricane Irma and left that way through hurricane season. We wanted to be sure we were out of the woods without the threat of any more serious hurricanes before we removed the hurricane protection. “Smokehouse” - A Tim Smith imaginary idea most likely posted by Tim or his sycophants. Moreover, NO ONE lives under the Annie House! The entire perimeter of the crawl space is reinforced with 2x4’s completed during the installation of the playground. The homeless lived under the house when Tim was in charge of maintenance and he did nothing about it.
My final thoughts:
Shame on you, Tim. You are not the leader this City needs. You call out Steve because you are politicizing a murder and ridiculously tying him to it for your political gain. Let me reiterate - I am responsible for the repairs that were neglected while “in your charge” – not Steve. Typical Tim Smith divisive style of “leadership,” many have caught on to who you are – payback is a bitch Tim and so is karma. You shook your finger in my face one too many times; I finally get my say. This behavior is what people are beginning to see, and is why you lost your very own precinct in the primary, along with your neighborhood of Middle River Terrace. Thank goodness Steven is going to win! Get used to it; no matter how many lies you try to spin, the truth always prevails.

P.S. I would urge everyone to read this 2014 Sun Sentinel article about Tim Smith and his “management” of the house – puts it all in perspective.
