Citizens Against Bahia Mar Fiasco

SOS
All Citizens of Fort Lauderdale should be alarmed and extremely concerned about the degree to which self-interested developers may influence the public policy decisions of our elected officials whose duty it is to protect the PUBLIC interest.
Is there a suspect syndicate acting under the guise of the law?
While political donations are obviously not illegal, there is a cabal of crony campaign contributors who support and enable their political gatekeepers and facilitators?
The following link is public information showing contributors to City Commissioner Robert Mckensie’s Campaign Fund:
http://www.fortlauderdale.gov/home/showdocument?id=6785
The vast majority of the contributors were not even residents of Fort Lauderdale (nor was Mckensie, prior to “running” for office according to a media expose).
Most of Mckensie’s contributors were the non-resident family, friends, neighbors, employees, subcontractors and business associates of the principal leaseholders and developers of the City-owned, Bahia Mar.
Here they are:
Stanley Tate Jimmie Tate’s father, Miami
Joanne Tate Jimmie Tates’s mother, Miami
Kenneth Tate 4500 N. Hills Hollywood FL Co-Founder of Tate Capital
Sandra Tate 4500 N. Hills Hollywood, Fl. Spouse
James Tate Biscayne Bay Dr. Miami
Janie Tate Miami
John Abdo listed himself as “private citizen” but is a major developer and testified in favor of the Bahia Mar Project at P&Z and Commission Meetings and is a contractor who may benefit from Bahia Mar development.
Robert Christoph Jr. 2181 North Bay Rd Miami. President RCI Group. Operates Bahia Mar and Miami Beach Marinas and is attempting to develop Virginia Key Marina for Miami Boat Show (all of which compete for vendors and Yachting clients with Bahia Mar & Fort Lauderdale’s Boat Show).
Alyson Cleave 2181 North Bay Rd Miami AKA Alyson Christoph, Alyson VanCleave married to Robert Christoph Jr.
Hunter G. Christoph 1560 Michigan AV Miami Bch. Yacht Insurance & Real Estate Broker related to Robert Christoph
John Hopwood Calusa Street Miami VP RCI Group & Member Miami Waterfront Advisory Board
Robert Christoph Sr RCI Chairman
Joel Altman Boca Raton Chairman Altman Companies. Major Apartment Developer. Has same lobbyist as Tate, Robert Lochrie. Collaborated on other development projects.
Bryan Morjain Ambassador Court N. Miami Managing Partner Of Rok Acquisitions, Tate Partner.
Sharon Morjain Spouse of Bryan Morjain
Marcos Morjain 1416 Presidential Way President of Reel Deal Yachts
Elizabeth Morjain Spouse
Robert Moskovitz 1436 Presidential Way N. Miami. Attorney for S. Rok and neighbor
Evelyn Moskovitz 1436 Presidential Way N. Miami. Spouse
Sergio Rok. 1426 Presidential Way N. Miami Tate Partner
Michael Sperling Ambassador Court N. Miami Manager Rok Acquisitions.
Susan Sperling Spouse
...and the beat goes on.
Commissioner Mckensie also owns a construction company that could potentially benefit indirectly from work from Bahia Mar developers.
Also, Mckensie has been investigated as reported by this Sun Sentinel story:
“Inspector General hammers City Commissioner On Election Violations” - Sun Sentinel
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/local/broward/fort-lauderdale/fl-lauderdale-mckinzie-campaign-finance-20160816-story.html
According to the Sun-Sentinel:
“The (Broward County) Inspector General's Office is forwarding its report to the city, the Florida Elections Commission and the Broward County State Attorney's Office for potential follow-up action. The reports said many of the alleged violations were first-degree misdemeanors, which under state law are each punishable by up to a year in prison and up to a $1,000 fine”.
What ever happened to this investigation?
Remember the context of the Mckensie campaign.
“McKinzie was appointed to the seat commissioners in November 2014 following former Commissioner Bobby DuBose's election to the state Legislature. McKinzie then defeated Donna Guthrie and Didier Ortiz in the regular February 2015 election.”
Obviously, campaign contributors related to the Bahia Mar developers had to be marshaled very quickly in support of the Mckensie campaign.
Mckensie would be the swing vote they would need in any decisions regarding Bahia Mar.
This, in fact, is what has happened. Mckensie rarely, if ever, asks any question during Planning and Zoning and Commission Meetings regarding Bahia Mar and has a “PERFECT” voting record in favor of every proposal put forth by the Bahia Mar developers.
Was Mckensie’s vote bought and paid for?
Should Mckensie be required to recuse himself from voting for the Project of those that comprised the vast majority of his campaign contributors.
Decide for yourself.
