In September 2015, the Fort Lauderdale Council of Civic Associations adopted the “Consensus Statement to the City Commission on Development Density”. The Document “discourages unsustainable, inappropriately-scaled development on the barrier Island.” February 2, 2016 the City of Fort Lauderdale voted unanimously to adopt the Evaluation Appraisal Report (EAR). (It was approved by P&Z in November of 2015.) Below are some excerpts from the Evaluation Appraisal Report: Planning and Zoning member Steve Glassman and members of the community questioned at the P&Z hearing on Bahia Mar why the City was ignoring the recommendations when it came to evaluating the proposed Bahai Mar plan. City Staff responded that they have not yet changed the Comprehensive Plan, and, even if everyone recognizes what needs to be done, nothing can be done until the Comp Plan has been changed. Our question: What is holding the City up? The Citizens spoke over two years ago, the P&Z Board voted on the EAR two years ago, and the Commssion adopted it 21 months ago. If it had been done and sent to the County and the State, how might that have impacted the proposed Bahia Mar Site Plan?
